We've had some fun cooking adventures recently, and Edward has enjoyed being right there in the midst of things. A few weeks back, our new friend came to teach us how to make fried spring rolls. A teacher of little kiddos, she was great with letting Edward "help" her stir the ingredients, and even get his hands in there mashing parts of the filling for the rolls. He loved it!
The following weekend, we had our coworker and his family over for lunch. They requested pizza, so we spent the morning prepping ingredients, simmering sauce, and making dough. An import store had some nice salami, and we chopped up bell peppers to go along with the mounds of cheese we grated. The kiddos helped sprinkle on the toppings before popping the pizzas into our oven. They loved it! (And we loved having an excuse to make good pizza!) The meal ended up being a bit of a mix of cuisines, with our coworker's wife frying us some fresh, homemade spring rolls. (Can you tell those are a popular food here? It's okay, though, because they are delicious!)
Next culinary adventure on the docket is teaching another coworker how to make homemade yogurt, then bread. In return, she'll teach me how to make dishes like pho, rice porridge, and some other Vietnamese awesomeness...
I'm excited about the many plans developing for the exchange of cooking and baking skills!!
